Mental Health Advocate, Blogger, Personal Transformation Life Coach
Hello and welcome to The Winter of My Discontent! My name is Amber Meeks and I am an ADHD and mental health advocate, blogger, novelist, and personal empowerment coach. I use my blog and social media (you can find me on Twitter @amboinreallife) to raise awareness and create community for people with ADHD and mental illness.
In 2020, after a lifetime of mental health issues, I got the courage to ask my therapist what was “wrong” with my brain. After a thorough evaluation, I finally had the answers that I had been chasing for all of my adult life: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obessessive-Compulsive Disorder, Generalize Anxiety, and Persistent Depressive Disorder with Major Depression (also known as double depression). It was a lot to take in, but I felt so much relief. Finally, my suffering had a name.
I took my newfound knowledge and took to the internet looking for two things: information about my brain works and other people who had gone through what I had been through. What I found there was a revelation. On ADHD Twitter, I found validation and friendship.
The more I learned about my disorders, the angrier I got. Years of behaviors finally made sense. I was angry about how I had been treated by the people who were supposed to love me. I was angry that the medical community had let me down. They missed things that, in my hindsight, were clearly obvious. I started thinking of all the people who came before me and who would come after. I knew that I wanted to use my voice to enact change.
I started writing on The Winter Of My Discontent and I never looked back. My aim has always been to educate, advocate, and create community for people with brain disorders.
In 2021, I branched out into coaching and am now a multi-certified personal empowerment coach for people with brain disorders. I help my clients find confidence, self-love, and radical self-acceptance. I am a goal oriented coach who loves working with clients to find fulfillment and joy in their lives. If you are interested in coaching, please reach at to firstname.lastname@example.org for a FREE 30-minute discovery session.
I am also a novelist and I strive to show true-to-life depictions of characters who have mental illness. I am currently querying my first novel, finishing up a second, with a third on the way. For more information, please email me at email@example.com.
