TWOMD Update 2022: Summertime and the Living’s Easy

Hello, Human Beans! I hope this update finds you all well and happy! Today I just want to take a break and do an update post. Lots and lots going on and I want to share with you.

I just had my birthday last week. I turned 40, which seems a little unbelievable, honestly. That said, my 30s were, collectively, the absolute pits. I’m looking forward to a new decade and a new me!

My Mental Health Update

So, first I want to give you a quick update on my mental health. Basically, I’m doing okay. Life circumstances still put a lot of stress on me, but I’m feeling better every day. The depression that has plagued me for the last few months is starting to lift; I’m staying out of bed more and more.

I had to call my doctor and ask for a med adjustment, which she obliged. The last time we had talked, we agreed that my depression was circumstantial and no adjustment would be needed, but the circumstances changed. I couldn’t control it anymore. It was not the kind of depression that was going to go away on its own. I needed the extra help. There is no shame in that.

I’ve been feeling like I probably need to get back to therapy, but I’m still trying to decide if I want to go back to Dr. W or if I want to try to find someone who specializes in what I need. I need the most help with ADHD and trauma. It’s hard to find people who specialize…when you look up the providers online, they always list EVERYTHING as their specialty. I need something more specific, I think.

That said, the idea of having to try and find a new provider that I mesh well with is daunting. It took me YEARS and a lot of good luck to find Dr. W. I am forever grateful for everything that she has done for me, they kindness and understanding she has shown me, and the knowledge about my brain that she bestowed on me. She believed me. She helped me. I hate that it may be time to move on.

Anyway, I’m doing much better. Getting stronger. Just taking it day by day.

Speaking of writing, I’ve been querying my novel with literary agents. The process can be pretty grueling and there is A LOT of rejection. My Imposter Syndrome and Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria. I’m dealing with it pretty well, if I do say so myself. I know not to take it personally and I just keep trucking on. Stay tuned cause this book is getting published, one way or another!
